One of the objectives of the “I was born!” project is to educate parents and specialists in the development of children with Down syndrome, which allows a new way to assess the capabilities of children with special needs in psychophysical development. October 4, 2019 In the framework of the project, on the basis of the State Institution “Minsk City Center for Social Services for Family and Children”, a seminar was held on the topic “Features of the Development of Children with Down Syndrome of Early Age”.
The seminar was conducted by a defectologist teacher, psychologist, and an early age specialist from the Center for Corrective Development Education and Rehabilitation of the Moscow region of Minsk Leshchenko Olga Ivanovna.
The development of the cognitive sphere of children with Down syndrome, strengths and weaknesses in the development of this category of children, the possibilities of compensating for weaknesses - these and other topics were discussed at the seminar. Particular attention was paid to the problems of sensorimotor deficiency, the game as a whole and the basic role-playing games, the features of speech development in Down syndrome and the use of gestures. During the training event parents received answers to their questions on the development of children, and at the end of the event all participants were given packages of thematic material.
The seminar was attended by parents raising children with Down syndrome from Minsk, Zhodino, Borisov, Gomel, Novopolotsk, Dzerzhinsk, Smolevichi. Specialists showed interest in the topic: the event was attended by employees of the center, on the basis of which the seminar took place, and speech therapists from other institutions. In total, more than 30 people studied at the seminar.
The registration of participants was successfully carried out by a girl with Down syndrome, Anya Sinkevich.
